Duplicate Car Keys
It’s always tough to justify spending money on your car beyond what is completely necessary. Unlike a house, a car is a depreciating asset, meaning its value will only go down over time (even for good, dependable car brands like Toyota this is the case), and every dollar you spend will be a dollar you cannot get back, hence the need to assess what’s necessary and what’s not before you break the proverbial piggy bank.
So where does a duplicate car key fit into the equation? Do you really need a duplicate car key?
The answer is, yes, you really do.

The Importance of a Duplicate Car Key
There are plenty of reasons why a duplicate car key is a good idea, regardless of whether you are the only person who drives the car or not (and if you are not, the need increases exponentially).
Let’s start with the obvious: if you are not the only person driving the car, passing around one key is not only inconvenient, but it’s also a great way to lose track of it. Having a designated place for the car key – like a special key hook by the door or a bowl on the kitchen counter – but how often do people actually end up leaving things where they belong (parents, can I get an amen)?
Not only this, but some people are more careful than others; Nancy may keep the key safe and sound in her purse, where it will stay as long as she has it, but Jimmy may keep it on a carabiner attached to his belt look, where it hits against the car frame getting in and out, drops off when the carabiner inevitably wears down, hits the ground and begins to crack and part, as car keys are wont to do; and this is not to mention the habit of some people to lose things more easily than others, thus making it so that everybody pays for their lack of caution.
A second car key eliminates this problem completely: both Jimmy and Nancy each get their own key and get to care for and keep track of it as they see fit, meaning if one person loses or breaks a key, you still have the duplicate car key, meaning the car does not have to function as an expensive driveway ornament.
But the problem extends beyond those who share keys; after all, some things are out of our control, like theft, wear and tear (even with the most careful people, accidents happen), and more. No matter how careful you are and how well you treat your car keys, we do key replacements for keys that were stolen at least once or twice a week, not to mention replacement of keys that were used as chew toys by dogs or children, thrown away by accident, or put through the wash leaving the key (and thus the car) inoperable.
More could be said about the resale value that a duplicate car key adds (even most dealerships these days don’t give two car keys upon sale), about the peace of mind that comes with knowing you’re not totally up the creek if something happens to your keys, and more, but suffice it to say that a duplicate car key is well worth the expenditure – and with South Shore Lock & Key, you can guarantee you’re getting the best value on the market, nonetheless.
It should be mentioned that we at South Shore Lock & Key do specialize in lost-all-keys services, and we can most definitely come right on scene and make you a new key from scratch if you’ve lost all your keys… However, this is a more complicated and thus more expensive service, so why not save yourself some money, stress, and trouble, and get a duplicate car key today?
