1.) DO NOT LEAVE YOUR KEYS IN THE CAR: Many people think that leaving your keys in your car is hack to make your life more convenient. After all, can’t struggle to find your car keys and be late to an appointment if they’re already in your car! However, there are a couple issues with this popular “hack” that could land you in a world of trouble, and which put it directly at the top of these 3 tips.
This is the best and easiest way to get your car stolen, especially if you leave the car unlocked (though, even if you lock it, people can still break a window, find your key, and drive away with your car). This becomes especially relevant if you have a smart key: if you leave the smart key in the car, a potential thief wouldn’t even have to look for the key – they could just hit the start button and go!
Speaking of smart keys, leaving the smart key in the car can drain both your key and your car battery. When the key is in the vehicle, it is sending signals back and forth, and when this is done over long periods of time and not during normal usage, your battery will drain more quickly than it should.
And speaking of batteries…
2.) CHANGE YOUR KEY BATTERIES: Many cars give some kind of warning when your car key batteries are low… However, not all do. And even for those that are supposed to, we’ve met many folks who complain of their key not working, and when we recommend changing the battery in the key they tell us that their car didn’t give the usual signal. Then we change the battery aaaaaand… It works again! Of these 3 tips, this is probably the most commonly overlooked, but also the cheapest and easiest to solve!

3.) GET A SPARE KEY: This one of our 3 tips is one we’ve talked about many times, and with good reason: the best way to ensure losing a key doesn’t disrupt your entire day is to have a spare car key. We are most certainly able to make car keys from scratch on the spot if all of your keys are lost, but this process is a bit more expensive (and, before we show up, it’s certainly more stressful, as well!) for you than simply making sure you have a backup beforehand.
